The Way We Were

Do you ever just take a little time to go through old photos once in a while? I love looking back to see where we we've come from. There's nothing like seeing an old picture of the "the way we were" to make you feel like you've come a long way, am I right?

Well, I was browsing my old photos this week and I saw a file from last March and wondered what we were doing at this time last year. To my amazement, I saw that in March last year, we were actually working hard to get the greenhouse built. I could hardly believe it because it feels like that was at least 5 years ago. I double checked my calendar and realized that these photos don't lie......we really were still trying to get glass on the walls a mere 12 months ago.

We've come a long way, baby!

I'm really HOOKED on our new facility, by the way. It is so much easier to keep track of orders, hold meetings, sit in a nice warm washroom..........
You can never underestimate the pleasure of a comfortable washroom!

Now, if you want to see what everyone else is hooked on this Friday, stop on by Julia's Hooked on Houses and check out who's hooked on what! Just click here

A Quick Visit to Edmonton, The Land of Perpetual Winter

Wow, we're finally HOME! Can you believe it?! This greenhouse business is very demanding as far as being away from home is concerened but there's one place I love to visit......Edmonton. For the last few years I've had to travel to Edmonton to do a seminar in the spring for one of our customers. Normally, I don't really like being away from my kids but......Edmonton is different. Why is it different, you ask? Well, it's because my big sister Rosa lives there. I LOVE visiting Rosa!
Can you believe this? Here's Rosa baking us fresh oatmeal cookies to go with our coffee! I didn't even know you could bake cookies in your own oven at home :) I thought they came from the grocery store.

Now, Rosa has a really green thumb. Rosa is also a blogger and keeps us all updated and informed about what's going on in her garden on a fairly regular basis. Just click here to read more She comes by her green thumb naturally, as compared to me........I married into the business when I met the Big Guy........she just started gardening because she loves it. She's a natural. She's so natural that her office also doubles as a greenhouse. Here's the Big Guy checking out her plants on her lit tables. In the old days, these grow bed used to be in her BEDROOM! She is a DIE HARD gardener!

We got a tour of her new greenhouse that she put up this past summer in her back yard. I don't know how Rosa does it but, together with her hubby, they got this beauty up and running for Spring 2009. It's not as full of plants as Rosa would like but.......if this was my little greenhouse and I lived in Alberta where the winter is 11 months long, I'd have my coffee in here every day! It's toasty warm and it feels like spring, even though it's below zero outside!

After the greenhouse tour, Rosa and I met my Mom and my Little Angel at West Edmonton Mall for some serious shopping. If you have never been to WEST EDMONTON MALL, let me tell you, it's a shopper's paradise. We needed to stop for a big lunch so that we could fuel up with sufficient energy to be able to really do the Mall justice! We were on the prowl for maternity clothes and shoes........the shoes were for me........the maternity clothes for my Little Angel :)
The other thing we ALWAYS do when we visit Edmonton is go visit a garden center. Rosa knows all the good places to go. To Rosa, flowers are like a drug, and she knows where to get the best! This time we visited Hole's Garden Center. Would you look at this cool display?! I wanna do this in OUR retail this year! And do you see this giant SEED display?Look at Rosa drooling over these seed packets like a kid in a candy store! I'm afraid that we may need to stage an intervention one of these days!
Rosa, thanks for being such an amazing are just the greatest! I hope that Spring comes soon for all you poor Albertan's :)

Extreme Metamorphosis!

I've been gone from the greenhouse for so long now that I was completely shocked when I realized what immense changes have been taking place while we were away. Talk about a METAMORPHOSIS!

Here's the greenhouse in February, when we're just getting ramped up with planting. Cuttings are getting stuck, plants are getting pinched and hung.........

And now today, almost every square inch of the place is full with blooming plants. There are wall to wall geraniums, wall to wall hanging baskets, we're running out of places to put things........what a fun time of the year!

I can't wait to see these Cineraria's go to market in a couple of weeks.......aren't they looking just FABULOUS?! Kudo's to the growers :)

Now, although I'm on my way to Alberta today to do another seminar, I really wanted to share pictures of what things are looking like around here. It is always an enormous change going from competely empty to completely full in 2 months time. I figured that Metamorphosis Monday was a perfect day to show you how amazing it is to watch a spring crop grow. If you want to check out more Metamorphosis, just click here

Hooked on Hiking

There are so many things to be Hooked on these could be hooked on travelling.......or hooked on, I'm hooked on something a little different. I'm Hooked on Hiking! Hiking is not only good for you but it's also a way of spending some seriously quality time together as family, admiring the beauty of nature and the wonders of creation! It's a Beautiful Life when you can spend time enjoying the small things in life like......

resting on the top of a steep cliff......

a rocky cragg......

an old dried out tree trunk......

a pile of horse poo.......
an immense blue sky.......
standing on the edge.......
finally reaching the top......

stopping for a rest on the way back down........
And getting your reward at the end of the journey! Sorry that I didn't take a picture of this beautiful Chocolate Lava cake before I started eating it but I was anticipating it sooooo much at the end of the hike that I dug in and forgot to take a picture :)

Now, if there is anyone out there who has not yet figured out that the Big Guy and I are COMPLETE's a photo to prove it! You can imagine that we always fight over the temperature control in the car with this kind of extreme difference in cold tolerance.

After our wonderful hike we hopped in the pool down at the Village for a 3 hour long soak in the 94 degree healing mineral waters. Even though we are only a few hours south of Vancouver, Canada, we managed to get a sun burn today, believe it or not!

It sure is a BEAUTIFUL LIFE! To see more ideas on how to make this "A Beautiful Life" just stop on by The Inspired Room where you'll get lots of great ideas! Click here

Another Metamorphosis Has Come and Gone!

Today's post is all about metamorphosis........just watch........see this gorgeous daughter of mine here with her dad? One minute she is sweet 16. Now, wait just a moment.......suddenly she's 17. One year older is a big milestone, don't you think?

We've decided to take the 3 younger kids on a short spring vacation to celebrate! Just a short few hours south is a wonderful Hot Springs Resort , Kah Nee Tah Resort, where we are chillin' for a week. We hope to see some sun but so far.......nothing.

So instead we are doing things like EATING, DRINKING, PLAYING, LAUGHING......basically we're taking time to appreciate each other! There's nothing like family to make you realize how blessed you are........

Oh no, all this fun is just too much for poor Opera Diva. It's seems she's got a nose bleed from all the excitement. Better get down to the Hot Spring pool for a dip in the healing waters!

Now, I'm off to go get myself a hot cup of Earl Grey Tea. I'm a junkie, I tell you! The smell of the Bergamot inside the tea package is just irresistable! Try a'll like it!
